Before, living underwater had many pros, and few cons. Being immune to explosions and having to deal with minimal mobs was most certainly a bonus. But constantly drinking water breathing potions was not fun at all, and air bubbles were often annoying- not to mention, food sources were often limited.
But now, living underwater is so much easier in the new 1.13. The aquatic update adds life to the ocean, making it feel like so much more then a mere squid-filled realm. It makes it feel like a brand new biome to explore, with its monsters and beauty.
So, I'll be talking about my tips and tricks as to living underwater. First, you have to pick a biome. I reccomend the Deep Lukewarm ocean, so you can find sea temples, and there are plenty of food sources- more then there are in the cold or warm ocean.
For this, you are likely going to need some supplies. You can start in creative and give yourself these supplies, or stay on an island until you have gathered the supplies. For me, starting with a bucket, a trident or sword, an iron pickaxe, a furnace with 64 coal, and a fishing rod is ideal. This will allow you to fight, find resources, and eat. Now, you can properly live underwater.
Lastly, let's fix that whole "can't breathe" thing. I recommend creating a conduit in creative, as it gives water breathing as long as you are near it. If you're like me, and just too lazy to do all that, then you can use the command /effect give <username> minecraft:conduit_power 1000000 255 for infinite water breathing. While this way is a bit more like cheating, It's much easier.
Now you have your underwater world set up! Live like normal and explore to enjoy the beauty of the underwater. Fight drowned and find sea temples, defeat guardians and find treasure!
